19-23 September 2011

This week we did a lot of work on getting to know each other. The ladybugs learned the feelings "happy and sad", the butterflies learned about behaviour in class and the giraffes learned how to introduce each other. Both, butterflies and giraffes started to learn phonics (the alphabet sounds)

For the ladybugs: we read the story hooray for fish by Lucy Cousins. We watched this video together: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDOTnBBJifQ . This video is without the reading, so you should have the book to read it to your child while watching (if you don't watch it just for pleasure). The book can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVfikeL7jNI&feature=related . For those who approve songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYviFc0D4gA&feature=related .

To introduce the phonics to the butterflies, I'm using Jolly Phonics.

For the giraffes I use the Phonics book by Usborne Books.

About the english books, let me tell you that we will soon hold an English book event inshaAllah where you can see some of the books we will use in class and others for home. If you are interested I will order the books for you. More information will come in the following days biidhnillah.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Semaine 1

Dear parents,

the first English lessons have begun. We learn our names and some important words that we need during our lessons.

We begin our lesson with the following nursery rhyme:

Teddy bear, Teddy bear

Teddy bear, Teddy bear,

Touch the ground.

Teddy bear, Teddy bear,

Turn around.

Teddy bear, Teddy bear,

Show your shoe.

Teddy bear, Teddy bear,

That will do.

Teddy bear, Teddy bear,

Run upstairs.

Teddy bear, Teddy bear,

Say your prayers.

Teddy bear, Teddy bear,

Blow out the light.

Teddy bear, Teddy bear,

Say good night.

You can find different versions of it on youtube. Here is one version to give you a little idea about the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbFo4sxkP1w. However, we don't use the same melody. Unfortunately I didn't find one which is exactly the same way we practice it.

After we get to know each other and making our own English identity cards, we will make a self portrait of ourselves with help of a paper plate. Be surprised about the photos that will be posted to see how they turned out.

Chers parents,

Teddy bear, Teddy bear

Teddy bear, Teddy bear,
Touch the ground.
Teddy bear, Teddy bear,
Turn around.
Teddy bear, Teddy bear,
Show your shoe.
Teddy bear, Teddy bear,
That will do.

Teddy bear, Teddy bear,
Run upstairs.
Teddy bear, Teddy bear,
Say your prayers.
Teddy bear, Teddy bear,
Blow out the light.
Teddy bear, Teddy bear,
Say good night.

All trees whether they be the graceful willows or a mighty oak, begin as the smallest of seeds. and so it is with the young child. They begin as a tiny seed, put down roots, sprout and then blossom. this magical process takes place when the child is nurtured with love. - Valerie Welk
